Always Stay Safe And Follow Warnings
Always follow the signs on any ski trail, no matter what.
It a post from "Telluride Daily Planet", they spoke with the San Miguel country sheriff who gave many warnings to the dangers of "poaching" while out on the hill.
For those that haven't heard the term before, "poaching" is just going to closed areas. This is something that is never safe to do, no matter the skill level or experience of the person doing it.
My favorite part of the Sheriff's warnings was saying that a person might not get rescued if something goes wrong out there. Those areas are closed for a reason, usually because of safety. It might not be possible for rescue personnel to get down there.
So, have a quick read here and remember to stay safe and stay out of places that you don't belong. Skiing is one of the more wonderful activities out there, but it isn't worth dying for. Especially if you die doing something stupid which could have been avoided.
Sheriff warns against 'poaching'
San Miguel County Sheriff Bill Masters warned skiers about the dangers and criminal ramifications of "poaching" - skiing or snowboarding in closed terrain - Monday after recent incidents on the Telluride Ski Resort, current avalanche dangers and high skier volume, according to a Sheriff's Office news release.
