On Tuesday, Feb. 26, a skier was caught in an avalanche on the western side of the Bridger Mountain Range.

According to a release for the Gallatin County Sheriff's Office, their own Search and Rescue, Bridger Ski Patrol, Gallatin N.F. Center and Central Helicopters responded to the avalanche at 2 P.M.

Along with the local authorities response, two other skiers in the area witnessed the avalanche and were able to locate the victim.

Although the response from all involved was quick and life-saving techniques were used, the victim was pronounced dead at the scene.

The victim was 36-years-old, though that is the only information that has been released at this time. The victim's identity is being withheld until next of kin can be notified.
