Mikaela Shiffrin Takes Gold In Slalom, First Athlete To Take Four Successive Championships In The Same Event
Even though she had to fight through an illness, Mikaela Shiffrin throws down a beautiful final run to take gold in Slalom at the World Championships.
Sitting in third place at the beginning of her final run, Shiffrin took to the course hard. Though she has been dealing with a chest cold, she was still able to take control of the course, demonstrating why she owns the circuit in Slalom. The course, although rutted and cut up, was not able to slow her down as she stayed on pace for a win. In the end, she crossed the line a full second ahead of Petra Vlhova, who had the lead at that time.
With this gold medal run, Shiffrin becomes the first alpine skier to win four successive world championships in the same discipline.
The final podium was Mikaela Shiffrin with the gold medal win, Anna Swenn Larsson, Sweden, took the silver medal, and in a place reversal of the Giant Slalom, Petra Vlhova took the bronze.
