Although a large part of competition news yestereday focused on Lindsey Vonn not being able to finish her final SuperG race, there was also big news for the winner of that same race. Fellow American superstar Mikaela Shiffrin took gold.

Showing that Shiffrin can do just as well in speed events, she did not hold back and took the gold with a time of 1:04.89, edging out Italy's Sofia Goggia by .02. This win marks the first gold medal in a speed event for Shiffrin in a major championship.

Shiffrin went to social media to speak out on the day.

As she has stated, she will not be competing in the Downhill or Alpine Combined events so that she may focus on the slalom events, which have been her bread and butter in competition. We wish her good luck and a continues success.
