Sad News From Oregon -- A Member Of The Mt. Ashland Ski Patrol Has Died

Anytime there is an accident that claims the life of a skier it is a sad day. However, this incident might carry a little more emotion. On Saturday a member of the Mt. Ashland Ski Patrol was killed while in the backcountry.

There was a group comprised of Mt. Ashland ski patrol members out in the backcountry when the accident occurred. It has been reported that the 23-year-old member of the group had collided with a tree. The rest of the group attended to the young man but were unable to resuscitate him.

Around 1:30 PM a 911 call was received from the group. The Jackson County Sherrif's Office and Ashland Fire And Rescue were dispatched to assist with the accident. Even with the quick response, the man was pronounced dead at the scene.

The local medical examiner's office is conducting their investigation into the accident, but have not yet released the identity of the young man who was killed.

The 23-year-old man was identified by the Jackson County Sheriff's Office as Johnathon Patrick Likeke Walker.

The cause of death has also been confirmed as suffocation. The investigation has revealed that Walker had fallen into a tree well and was trapped upside down.
