Mikaela Shiffrin Clinches World Cup Overall Title
Imagine being able to wake up one morning and being told that you have won a championship on a day that you aren't competing. It doesn't happen very often, but today it happened to Mikaela Shiffrin.
As snowstorms canceled races in Sochi, Shiffrin's point lead could not be challenged. She currently has a 719 point lead over second place holder Petra Vlhova. With SuperG events being canceled and Vlhova sitting out of the Sochi events, there will not be enough opportunities for Vlhova to make up the point gap for the overall title.
Congratulations to Mikaela Shiffrin on this third overall title win and for being able to clinch while taking some time off from the competition. For an even better explanation, and a far more entertaining one, the following video from Shiffrin's social media page tells not only how she clinched but gives her feelings about it.
