I've Never Seen This At A Ski Hill -- Tandem Snowboarding

I have seen, on more than a few occasions, people going down the hill as a pair. From doubles ski ballet to tandem setups for disabled skiers and riders. I can safely say that I have never seen anything like this.

 The thing about watching this video is wondering how this is working. It doesn't seem like it would work, yet here we are. My other take away is this...what did the top person do with their board?
