This will mark the first show from Cirque du Soleil that has been inspired by action/street sports. This holds true not only in how exciting these sports can be but also by showcasing the freedom and spirit these sports are known for.
"Street sports and the spirit of adventure - The creators of VOLTA drew inspiration from the spirit of adventure that pervades the world of street sports and acrobatics. Whether they are on a bike, hopping from rooftop to rooftop, or double dutch rope skipping, urban sports enthusiasts constantly challenge themselves and defy convention."
The finale is a segment that is dedicated to BMX riding, a sport that is also popular with fans of winter action sports. In this segment, a full bike park is brought to the stage. The six large ramps that make up the park are built like nesting dolls, fitting one inside the other, allowing for the park to be rolled out in real time. To make that even cooler the ramps are built out of transparent polycarbonate, allowing the audience to see through the ramps, which will give a unique sight line for spectators.
Combining the world of action sports with the beautiful and daring acrobatics that Cirque du Soleil is already known for will make for an amazing show. Show dates start tonight in San Diego and run until May 5. Later in the year, the show will be in Washington, D.C. from July 26-September 8, 2019. Ticket information, the show dates, and other information can be found at the Cirque du Soleil: VOLTA website.
We can only hope that maybe, just maybe, they will take this idea into a winter-themed show.
