A backcountry skier that was caught up in a small snowslide in the area above Colchuck Lake in Washington was successfully rescued Sunday, April 14.

As reported by the Chelan County Sherrif's Office, Shanna Hovertsen, a 29-year-old woman from Seattle, was skiing with friends Sunday afternoon when she was swept away by the slide. During the slide, she twisted both of her knees. The rest of her group were able to bring Hovertsen to a campsite near the lake. One of the members of the group used a satellite communications device to send for help.

A helicopter crew from the Chelan County Sheriff's Office was able to land close to the Hovertsen and her group. She was then airlifted to the National Fish Hatchery landing pad near Leavenworth where she was then taken by ambulance to Cascade Medical Center in Leavenworth.

Hovertsen was reported in stable condition.
