Watch Those Hiking Trails -- Border Patrol Finds 100+ Pounds Of Pot On A Trail

Grand Island, NY
Hiking is one of the activities skiers and riders turn to as the snow melts for the spring and summer. Not far from a hiking trail in Grand Island, NY, Border Patrol agents had to pick up an awful lot of weed.

According to a press release from the U.S. Customs and Border Protection, agents observed a helicopter hovering very low over a parking lot at Beaver Island State Park. This was at around 8:20 PM this past Tuesday night, April 9.

In cooperation with the Erie County Sheriff's Office, a search of the area was conducted, but no people were found in the area. However, there were four large, red duffle bags found, each with 25 sealed plastic bags of marijuana, totaling 108 pounds. The estimated value of the weed is $151,000.

An investigation of the incident is currently being conducted by Local, State, and Federal authorities.
