Mt. Washington in New Hampshire is known for a few things. It is the tallest mountain in the east, it has some of the most wicked weather in the world at the summit, and it is home to the first mountain climbing and second steepest rack railway in the world.

For most outdoor sports enthusiasts, going to Mt. Washington means skiing, hiking, or biking. But for some, it means going to see a beautiful natural wonder, which could also mean hiking or biking to get to the summit or driving the road to the top.

Taking a ride on the cog is yet another way to not only get to the summit but to experience the beauty of the White Mountains. It is a unique train system that celebrates 150 years of operation in 2019, giving any tourist a little extra reason to check it out.

On June 22, 2019, is the 150 Anniversary Celebration Gala, which will be an all-day event that will include historical presentations, food and drink, and fireworks. Tickets for this event are on sale now and are limited. To purchase a ticket or to get more information you can head to the Mt. Washington Cog Railway website.

There will also be a bunch of activities and festivities on July 3rd, which marks the actual 150th anniversary of the opening day of the railway. Again, a visit to the website will have all the information one could need, including daily schedules and more about the history of this unique railway.
