Boy Goes Missing On The Appalachian Trail Near Killington, Vermont -- Found Safely The Following Day

A teenage boy from Montreal, Quebec went missing on the Appalachian Trail near the Cooper Lodge in Killington, VT according to a news release from the Vermont State Police.

The boy, Shmuel Rabinowitz, 15, got separated from his group on the evening of Wednesday, July 24.

A multi-agency search and rescue operation was begun, which included the Vermont State Police Search and Rescue Team, Killington Search and Rescue, New England K-9 Search and Rescue, Upper Valley Wilderness Response Team, U.S. Forest Service, Green Mountain Club, and the Vermont National Guard.

On Thursday evening, Vermont State Police learned that the boy had encountered other hikers and used their cellphone to contact relatives. The search and rescue teams made their way to the boy's location to confirm his identity.

That same evening it was confirmed that the teenager was the missing boy and the search and rescue team escorted him out of the woods. The boy was no harmed or injured in any way.
