Avalanche Canada, a non-profit, non-government organization that provides forecasting and safety training for avalanches has just received a large boost of financial help from the Canadian government.

It was announced that the federal government has decided to invest a total of $25 million in the organization.

The funding will help the organization expand on the mission that it already has taken on by allowing the organization to bring more safety programs to underserved areas. This includes areas in northern British Columbia, Quebec, Newfoundland and Labrador, and the Yukon.

As backcountry recreation continues to grow in popularity, it is vital that the public has an organization such as Avalanche Canada to be able to stay safer in the high mountains.
