The actress is being sued by a retired optometrist, Terry Sanderson, because of a collision between the two at Deer Valley Resort while both were skiing in 2016. Sanderson has also brought a lawsuit against Deer Valley Resort claiming that a ski instructor that was accompanying Paltrow yelled at him and did not call the ski patrol for help.
Lawyers for the resort have been arguing that the lawsuit should be settled Paltrow and Sanderson and that the resort is protected by a law that takes the inherent dangers of skiing into account. However, the judge overseeing the bid to have the resort removed from the lawsuit said that the actions of the ski instructor in question do not fall under the inherent dangers.
It is because of the judge's decision that Deer Valley Resort will remain a defendant in this lawsuit.
There is a countersuit that has been filed by Paltrow claiming that Sanderson is actually the one at fault and that his suit is based on Paltrow being wealthy and a celebrity.
