Missing Appalachian Trail Hiker Found Dead In His Tent In Maine
On August 3, the family of Jeffrey Aylward reported him missing. It was just yesterday, August 5, that Maine game wardens found Aylward dead in his tent along the Appalachian Trail.
The last time Aylward's family had heard from him was on July 23, when he had sent a text message to his family. Not hearing from him after that sparked the need to call authorities for help.
According to a report from News Center Maine, wardens from the Maine Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife had been spreading the news about the disappearance of Aylward along the trail in hopes that other hikers may have spoken to or seen the missing man. Hikers in that area did report the siting of a long tent not far off-trail.
When wardens searched the tent and found Aylward deceased. The wardens are working with the Medical Examiner's Office for the investigation and the transportation of Aylward's body. Currently, there has been no reason to suspect the death as suspicious as Aylward had a history of health issues.
