During the late evening this past Monday, August 12, Beth Skelley, 56, and two companions were inside their tent after hiking along the Colorado Trail, just below Grizzly Peak. Though her two companions did not suffer any serious injury, Skelley was not able to survive the incident.
San Juan County and La Plata County Search & Rescue teams called for a Flight for Life helicopter out of Mercy Medical Center in an attempt to save the life of Skelley, but responders were not able to revive her. The helicopter was also called in the following day to assist with taking Skelley out of the area.
