"We are thrilled to be introducing modern technology to improve our carbon footprint and continue to build upon our long-standing sustainability plan," said Russell Chamberlain, President & General Manager of Cypress Mountain.
In partnership with Climate Smart Businesses as part of the Low Carbon Economy Fund initiative, the mountain will be upgrading night skiing operations with LED lighting.
The project will include the replacement of over 560 metal halide trail lights in both the Nordic and Downhill facilities. This will not only provide a better-lit experience for visitors but will significantly reduce the power consumptions of the mountain.
"This initiative will reduce our annual trail lighting power consumption by 60% and provide our skiers and riders with a much improved night experience," said Jeremy Wentzel, Director of Operations at Cypress Mountain.
The project will be completed by the Spring of 2020.
