Glacier Destruction For Austrian Ski Resort

Credit: WWF
Several environmental groups are looking to stop the expansion of an Austrian ski resort, an expansion that would destroy a large number of pristine glaciers.

The Alpine Association Austria, nature lovers, and the WWF are demanding that development of untouched Tyrolean glaciers be stopped.

The Pitztal-Ă–tztal glacier complex project will need to level an area roughly the size of 90 football fields (64 hectares). Another 1.6 hectares of glacial ice will need to be leveled for the construction of new buildings in the area.

As glacier loss has been seen as a sign of climate change and is an environmental issue, those local environmental groups are pushing to have the project halted, including suggestions of more environmentally friendly ways to increase tourism infrastructure.
