An Alpine World Cup Stop Will Be A Test For Beijing 2022

The Olympic and Paralympic Games in Beijing are still about two years away, but there will be some competitive skiing heading to the area just after the new year.

Yanqing, a suburban district of the city of Beijing, will be the venue for Men's World Cup Super-G and Downhill events on February 15-16. At current, 111 athletes from 19 countries are registered for this event.

This event will be a test run for the 2022 Winter Games as this will be the same venue for the alpine skiing events. There have been concerns since Beijing was named the host city for the 2022 games, one of which is the unreliable snowfall in the city and surrounding areas. The World Cup races will, in part, serve as a way to put some of that concern to rest.

Yanqing will also be hosting the bobsled, luge, and skeleton events. The rest of the Olympic schedule will take place in the cities of Beijing and Zhangjiakou.
