Lake Tahoe Opens This Weekend -- Mt. Rose, Nevada Spins Lifts Friday

Mt. Rose, Nevada will be the first hill at Lake Tahoe to open for the 2019/2020 skiing and riding season.

Mt. Rose has the big mountain advantage of having a base area at just over 8,000 feet. Temperatures at that elevation have been dropping quickly, allowing for this mountain to start using snowguns before September closed out. That, combined with some natural snow that has been falling in the area, has allowed Mt. Rose to be the first to open in the Tahoe region.

Mt. Rose is getting such a jump on the season that other Lake Tahoe regions mountains will be opening weeks after. The next mountains to open are being reported as Squaw Valley/Alpine Meadows on the 15th of November.
