Trail And Backcountry Development Just To The Left Of Mt. Snow, Vermont

There is a plan in the works to develop a 50-acre parcel of land near Mount Snow, Vermont for use as recreational trails over the next five years.

According to a report from the Brattleboro Reformer, the land was purchased by the town of Dover with the intent to link the Valley Trail with the Crosstown Trails and a backcountry area between Mount Snow and Haystack.

The current plan is to have a temporary loop for snowshoe and cross-country skiers, plus two small backcountry areas for skiers and snowboarders ready for the coming season. The development will continue to a one-mile mountain bike loop, then a one-mile hiking trail designed with beginners in mind.

This new project could be a reminder to locals and Mount Snow/Haystack fans of past proposals to connect the two mountains. During the late 1980s, a proposal was drafted with the intention of connecting the two ski mountains with multiple news trails and a possible three new lifts. However, that development never came to pass.
