Could One Ski The Grand Canyon? They Had The Snow For It This Week
Though it probably isn't the best idea to make an attempt at skiing the Grand Canyon, there was the snow to make one consider the idea. This week the South Rim saw the first snow of the season at Grand Canyon National Park.
Wednesday night into Thursday morning saw a snowstorm drop almost 3 inches of snow at the South Rim area of the park, according to a social media post from the park.
Though watching one of the most visited and beautiful high desert vistas turn into a winter wonderland is only part of the weather fun to be had at the Grand Canyon. Due to the difference in elevation between the rim and the canyon floor, the scenery was much different at the bottom of the canyon.
It's not often that one can experience two seasons in one day, especially with how wonderful it appears to be in the photos. If one is able, it might be a wonderful fall/winter trip to visit the canyon when it is in a state like this. However, check with the Grand Canyon website or follow the park's social media pages for travel updates. Remember, traveling to the South Rim is through the high country and can get dangerous during winter weather.
