Under The Radar Opening In New Mexico -- Sipapu Opened Halloween Morning
Halloween skiing and riding were a thing in many places in the United States and it would seem that New Mexico wanted to be one of those places. As of 9 A.M. local time on Halloween, Sipapu Ski and Summer Resort opened for the 2019/2020 season.
Sipapu has claimed the tile of the first hill to open in New Mexico for the last 17 years, but this year the opening day came with a bonus. This was the first time in the mountain's history for an October opening. That's right, yet another mountain to be part of the season of earliest openings ever.
The mountain was able to open with Lift 5, giving access to the Thumper trail and a base of 12" of snow. There were also other limited amenities, including food service and the rental shop.
Sipapu's opening day closed down at 4 o'clock Halloween evening and will remain closed for today, November 1st. However, the mountain will reopen tomorrow bright and early and be open for weekends until the 22nd.
For more information on hours and days of operation and what will and will not be open for the coming weeks, head to the Sipapu Ski and Summer Resort website or follow the mountain on their social media pages.
