Whaleback Mountain, NH Will Not Open Today

The closest ski mountain to Ski Rex Media is feeling the lack of luck that superstitious folk would attribute to this being Friday the 13th. Whaleback Mountain in Enfield, New Hampshire, set to open this morning, has had to push back their opening date.

The recent rains that spread across New England took a toll on the natural and machine-made snow at the mountain, forcing the postponed opening. However, for those locals and fans of the mountain, there is no need to fret, but to be patient. The mountain will only have to wait about a week to get the lifts turning, shooting for an opening next Friday, December 20.

As mentioned in the above post from the Whaleback Mountain Facebook page, there are still a couple of reasons to visit the mountain this weekend. Starting with tonight, the mountain's annual chili cookoff kicks off at 5 o'clock. The snow may not be outside, but it is still cold, and chili is a great way to warm up. The cookoff, a raffle, and kid's activities will also be going on tonight. If you're interested, more information can be found on the Whaleback Mountain Facebook page and tickets are for sale at https://shop.whaleback.com/collections/events/products/chili-cook-off-admission.

Remember, if you are able to go tonight, you'll be part of some of the first people, outside those who have been working on it, to see how the main lodge renovation has turned out. For those who are returning guests, it could make for a whole new Whaleback experience.

Then, also mentioned above, there is the Rock The Hills snowmobile hill climb race this Sunday. If you're looking to see sleds blasting up the mountain, gates will open at 8 A.M. with registration at 9 o'clock, and racing begins at 10 A.M.

Even without being officially open for the 2019/2020 skiing and riding season, Whaleback has got you covered for a weekend of fun and winter activities. For updates about the opening day, for more information on these events and those coming through the season, and for snow reports when the season is underway, head to the Whaleback Mountain website or follow the mountain's social media pages.
