A New England Man Has Died At Winter Park, Colorado
This past Saturday, January 18th, an accident at Winter Park Resort in Colorado claimed the life of 25-year-old Francis Raymond Ermilio from Shrewsbury, Massachusettes, according to a press release from the Fraser Winter Park Police Department.
During the late afternoon, just after four o'clock, Ermilio and his group became separated near the Whistle Stop and Dormouse runs. The group decided to wait for Ermilio at the resort base but ended up having to notify Winter Park Ski Patrol that their friend was overdue.
The search for Ermilio began immediately, though Ermilio was not discovered until about 7:35 P.M. The ski patrol found Ermilio unresponsive and suffering from head and facial trauma in the trees adjacent to the White Rabbit Run. Rescue efforts were started immediately at the scene and Ermilio was transported off the mountain and then to Denver Health Clinic, where he was pronounced dead at about 8:24 P.M.
A preliminary investigation suggests that Ermilio was skiing the White Rabbit run, may have lost control, and skied into the forested area. During that time he suffered the injuries that would prove fatal after colliding with several trees. Reports also revealed that Ermilio was not an experienced skier, but he was wearing a helmet at the time of the accident.
The Grand County Coroner's Office will be handling the completion of the autopsy to determine the actual cause and manner of Ermilio's death.
May the young skier Rest in Peace.
