Fire Tears Through Old Mount Tom Lodge In Massachusetts

Mount Tom, the long shut down Western Massachusettes ski area saw some action for the first time in a long time in the form of a fire that burned through the old main ski lodge.

It was this past Sunday evening, February 23rd, that firefighters from the city of Holyoke responded to the fire at Mount Tom. The fire was called into 911  around 6:40 P.M. by hikers that happened to be in the area. This is according to a report from WWLP via Holyoke Fire Lieutenant Michael Boucher.

The fire has been said to have been challenging due to a lack of a water supply. Fire crews had to run fire engines back and forth down the mountain to bring water to the scene of the fire.

Crews remained into the night to fight the blaze. During this time one firefighter was injured. However, the firefighter was treated and released from a local hospital that same night with only minor injuries.

At current, a cause for the fire has not been released. The Holyoke Fire Department Fire Investigation Unit will be conducting the investigation to determine the cause.
