A Fitting Tribute -- Stowe Mountain Resort, VT Renames Trail In Honor Of Jake Burton
On November 20, 2019, Jake Burton Carpenter, snowboarding pioneer, legend, and founder of the company that bears his name, Burton Snowboards, passed away due to complications from recurring cancer. On March 13, 2020, the entire snow sports industry, community, and friends and fans of Jake Burton took to the mountains to celebrate "A Day For Jake", a day to celebrate the life and innovations of one the truest heroes of snowboarding. This included several resorts from around the world giving out free day tickets so Burton fans could celebrate and say goodbye in a way that would be most fitting. But, there was one celebration at Stowe Mountain Resort in Vermont that was a little different.
On March 13th, during a gathering of family, friends, snowboarders, skiers, Burton & mountain employees, and fans, the trail once known as Lullaby Lane was officially renamed to Jake's Ride. Jake's wife Donna and children George, Timi, and Taylor were on hand for the celebration as the trail that was said to be his favorite, which his wife confirmed, was renamed in one of the most fitting tributes that could be given to Jake Burton Carpenter.
To say that Jake's memory and legacy will live on forever could be an understatement, as the man was respected and beloved by all fans of mountain snow sports, both snowboarders and skiers alike. However, these gestures will ensure that legacy will survive no matter what. #RideOnJake
