Stratton, Vermont Challenges You To A Virtual Pond Skim

Who out there looks forward to the annual springtime tradition of the Pond Skim? Just about everyone, huh?

Pond skimming is one of the most anticipated springtime events at any ski hill out there, but with shutdowns still very much in effect, pond skims just aren't happening this season. That is, they aren't happening in a traditional way.

Stratton Resort in southern Vermont has come up with a way to get in some springtime, pond skimming fun with the announcement of their Virtual Pond Skim Challenge. You didn't read that wrong. This year Stratton wants you to do that pond skimming from home during these times of social distancing and post of the internet for the world to see.

"Together with the Stratton Foundation, our 2020 virtual Pond Skim is a chance for those at home to get creative and help out the local Stratton community. Put on your wackiest costume, break out your skis or boards, and film or photo your best at home Pond Skim. Challenge your friends, spread the word, and feel your best about laughing in the sun, and helping those who need an extra ray of sunshine during these times." - Stratton Virtual Pond Skim Challenge

The bit is quite simple. All you have to do is get into your best pond skim attire, take a photo or video of your run, and share to social media for the world to see. You don't have a pond on which to skim? That's actually okay. You see, they are looking for creativity and have but a few guidelines to follow. A sample submission for the website suggests "...gearing up in spring ski or snowboard attire, a costume, etc, and having a bucket of water dumped on the rider." The sky really can be the limit on this one.

This whole event could be a lot of fun, but it also is working towards a good cause. As part of the event, optional donations can be made to benefit the Stratton Foundation's COVID-19 Relief Fund. Those donations will be matched by Stratton up to $5,000 and will help pay for food distribution within the region. To date, over 7,000+ meals have been donated by Stratton Resort through the Feed The Community initiative. Donations are not necessary to participate but are deeply appreciated during this time of urgent need. If you'd like to make a donation of your own, you can do so through the Feed The Community GoFundMe page.

Looking to enter the virtual pond skim? All you have to do is get the pictures or videos that you read about above, then tag @strattonresort or use #StrattonPondSkim so that the mountain can find your submissions, which will then be judged. A panel of judges will pick the top 3 posts based on charisma and creativity. The winners will then be awarded prizes from Smith Optics, which includes a Smith Optics Snow Helmet for 1st place, Smith Optics Snow Goggles for 2nd place, and Smith Optics Sunglasses for 3rd place.

Get those submission posts up quickly. The virtual pond skim is running from May 6th through May 16th, 2020. That gives you just over a week to get it done. If you need more information, head to Stratton Resort's social media pages or the virtual pond skim page on the Stratton website.
