Killington Is Once Again Looking To Support The Community That It's Part Of

Yesterday, June 8th, Killington Resort in Killington, Vermont announced a new program designed to assist the local community during the time of COVID-19 and after.

Through this new program, called Play It Forward, Killington Resort and other resorts that belong to parent company POWDR are going to be working with the communities that they are part of through volunteering, contributing items in need, or donating support to those who need it. Play It Forward is in a part an offshoot of POWDR's Play Forever initiative, through which they promote environmental protection through participation in outdoor sports.

The current focus of Play It Forward is to help those that have been affected by COVID-19. Again, the work is going to be done through volunteering, providing items in need, and donating to Killington's Play It Forward Fund. This fund has been set up in partnership with the Vermont Community Foundation and looks to support those in the community that faces trouble in the times of COIVD-19 and future issues.

“As part of the fabric of this community, we have a responsibility to support those who work, live and play here,” says Mike Solimano, president and general manager of Killington Resort and Pico Mountain. “We want to ensure our community comes out of these tough times stronger and Play It Forward will not only help strengthen the local community as we navigate the coronavirus pandemic, but we hope that it will inspire others to follow our lead.”

The Play It Forward Fund was established with a $350,000 gift from the Cumming Foundation, and John and David Cumming. John Cumming founded POWDR, a company that owns and operates several mountain resorts across the country, all of which have their own Play It Forward funds. The family and foundation's gifts total $2.25 million and look to help POWDR mountains assist their local communities.

Killington Resort's plan to allocate the funds feels pretty straight forward. There is a plan to put $130,000 to help with economic relief in the community, to help those businesses in Killington town that have taken a hit during the COIVD-19 outbreak. Then, $100,000 to assist with food security programs, which falls in line with what Killington has done already. This includes two food distribution drives for those in the community that have been in need. A third such drive is taking place today, Tuesday, June 9th, from 3-7 P.M. at Castleton Lodge.

As for remaining funds, those will be allocated to local non-profits with a focus on building a stronger community.

Application information will be rolled out at a later date, however, for those looking for more information on the Play It Forward initiative or the fund, please head to the link below or contact Killington Resort.
