Sugar Bowl Resort In CA Has Paused Season Pass Sales

"Sugar Bowl has decided to pause sales of all 2020/21 season passes in order to provide the safest possible ski and snowboard experience for guests and staff this winter."
- Sugar Bowl News Release

As ski resorts across the country, and around the world, continue to make and modify plans for the upcoming skiing and riding season, one mountain has chosen to pause the sale of its season passes in hopes of avoiding the need for a passholder reservation system and to limit the number of folks on the mountain to help maintain proper social distancing.

The news of the Sugar Bowl season pass sales pause was released today via the mountain's social media feeds and in an update/release on the mountain's website. The mountains operators feel this is the right way to go to manage the coming season while being COVID-19 compliant.

"Recently, neighboring resorts announced their plan to implement the passholder reservation option. In contrast, at Sugar Bowl – a smaller, independent, and nimble company – we believe a limit on pass sales is a better approach for our customers, while still allowing us to stay within our safe, comfortable capacity every day and to maintain adequate social distancing between guests and staff at our pinch points near lifts and lodges. That said, even with a cap in sales, we cannot entirely rule out the possibility of also implementing a passholder reservation system. Pausing sales now, however, gives us the potential opportunity to avoid that scenario." - Sugar Bowl News Release

The mountain was also quick to point out that this is truly a pause. To give some hope to fans of the mountain that might have missed the opportunity to get their pass, Sugar Bowl did say that, "We’re using the word “pause” to describe our stop in season pass sales because it may turn out that, after further analysis and consultation with our local and county government partners, we have a little more space to add a few more passholders."

The new release also went on to reassure fans that even though pass sales have been paused, winter preparations are still on schedule for the coming 2020/2021 ski/snowboard season.
