Ullr Now Stands Watch Over Breckenridge, Colorado

Breckenridge Ski Resort has just added itself to the list of ski resorts and areas open for the 2020/2021 ski & snowboard season out there in Colorado. It could be argued, however, that it should not be a surprise considering they now have a large tribute to the Norse God of Snow, Ullr, watching over the mountain.

This new tribute to a God that just about every skier and rider pray to comes by way of the Grand Colorado on Peak 8, a lodge that sits at the bottom of the peak that it is named for. The owners of the lodge began looking for an artist that could capture Ullr in all of his glory and create a statue worthy of him, which lead them to sculptor Andy Scott, who has created works of art around the globe.

The 25-foot tall, one-ton statue took just over a year to complete and is created using 1" pieces of welded steel. The metal tribute to the God of Snow was installed at the base of Peak 8, just in front of the Grand Colorado on Peak 8, on Tuesday, November 10, 2020. All too fitting for the day was the snow falling all around those working on the installation of the statue.
