A Short Documentary On Snow Sports Life After The Fukushima Disaster -- VIDEO
It was close to 10 years ago that one of the largest recorded earthquakes in history rocked Japan, causing damage and destruction that would affect millions and drew the attention of the planet as a whole. During the earthquake and the subsequent tsunami, the Fukushima-Daiichi nuclear power plant suffered a complete meltdown, only adding to the devastation of the natural disaster.
Aizu features two area locals and explores the Fukushima tragedy through their eyes, as well as how their lives have progressed since 2011. Part of that progression has come through snowboarding, as well as surfing and skateboarding. A passion for these sports, a passion that is being passed down to the next generation, is part of the rebuilding process and living a normal life in an area of the world that was wrecked, almost beyond recognition.
All these years later the effects are still being felt, though the community itself is moving forward, living their day to day lives and healing from the disaster. Interestingly enough, some of those who are affected by the disaster are finding their healing through snow sports.
