Belleayre Mountain, NY Takes A Whoopin' After Christmas Rain

One week before Christmas the east saw some amazing amounts of snowfall around the region, some of which may have set new records for 24-hour accumulation totals. That was pretty awesome until the white Christmas was hampered by a rainy one, which then caused flooding and other natural issues across the same regions. This included a landslide that caused severe damage to the Overlook Lodge at Belleayre Mountain in Highmount, NY out in the Catskills.

Thankfully, there were no injuries reported due to the accident. However, the lodge itself was filled with snow, mud, and other debris from damage done, including broken windows and doors.

The mountain was closed the following day, December 26th, to assess the damage and clean up enough to be able to open on December 27th, which they were able to do.
